Description

Oriental Beauty Oolong – Honeyed, Muscatel Bug-Bitten Oolong

Oriental Beauty Oolong is crafted from Jinxuan cultivar leaves grown on Mount Dahei, a national forest reserve in Yunnan Province in China's beautiful southwest. This tea is quite unique: early in the season, tiny leafhoppers arrive in the tea garden and, over about three weeks, partially nibble the leaves, triggering natural oxidation while the leaves are still growing.

Oriental Beauty is oxidized to more than 60%, achieved through a long period of cool temperatures and a careful, complex withering and leaf-processing method. A triple roasting then draws out its sweet honey-like notes and complex depth. These natural conditions and traditional techniques create the tea's signature honey and muscatel character.

Tasting Notes

  • Dry leaf: multicolored, with pale green flecks and whole leaves
  • Liquor: crystal-clear golden amber
  • Aroma: rich floral and muscatel
  • Flavor: rich, bold and sweet with honey notes
  • Finish: long-lasting and sweet

Why You'll Love It

Oriental Beauty is one of the most unique teas in the world, prized for its natural honey sweetness and wine-like muscatel notes. Its rich, bold and long-lasting flavor is exactly what's desired in a high-quality Oriental Beauty.

  • From Mount Dahei, Yunnan
  • Naturally leafhopper-bitten
  • Over 60% oxidized and triple-roasted
  • Honey and muscatel notes

How to Enjoy

Brew it gongfu-style or in a teapot and enjoy several infusions. It's best enjoyed plain and pairs beautifully with fruit, pastries and mild cheeses.

Sweet, fragrant and utterly captivating, Oriental Beauty Oolong lives up to its beautiful name.

my first favourite tea, when i was just beginning to get into chinese/gong fu tea, was oriental beauty tea.

my dad's friend gifted a box of it to him many years ago after a trip to china, and it sat in our kitchen for over a decade. we weren't big tea drinkers. but when i became interested in tea, my dad remembered that big red box of tea, and we dusted it off and tried it. i loved it right away. the label was chinese, so we used google lens to translate the text and find out that it was oriental beauty tea.

after i inevitably drank it all, i wanted to buy more. unfortunately it's a rare tea; difficult to find even in a big city. i bought it the one time i saw it in my city, but it wasn't the same as the one my dad's friend bought in china. so when i saw it on tealyra i was excited to get a small 25g sample. i was amazed at the quality. it tastes exactly like the one from china, and brings back great memories of my first gong fu tea ceremonies. i'm looking forward to buying a bigger portion from here when i run out of what i have.

Very good, oxidized oolong with a pleasant honey flavor. If I had to choose just one tea to live with, it would be Oriental Beauty.
