Hibiscus tea FAQ

What does hibiscus tea taste like?

Hibiscus is tart and tangy, much like cranberry or pomegranate juice, with a deep red colour. Many people add a little honey or sugar to round out the tartness.

How do I brew hibiscus tea?

Use 1 to 2 teaspoons per 250 ml cup and water at about 96°C. Steep 3 to 5 minutes. Hibiscus colours the water fast, and a long steep makes it more sour.

How do I make iced hibiscus tea?

Brew it double strength, using about 2 to 3 teaspoons per 250 ml of hot water, then pour it over a full glass of ice. You can also steep it in cold water in the fridge overnight for a smoother cup.

Does hibiscus tea stain?

It can. The deep red colour may stain light mugs, plastic pitchers and fabric, so rinse cups soon after use. Glass and glazed porcelain clean up easily.

Where can I buy loose hibiscus tea in Canada?

Right here: Tealyra ships whole hibiscus flowers and hibiscus fruit blends across Canada. We ship across Canada from our Canadian home, and free shipping in Canada is available. Most orders arrive in 2 to 5 business days after dispatch; remote areas can take longer.

How do I make a hibiscus holiday punch?

Brew a strong pot, sweeten lightly, chill, then mix with sparkling water, orange slices and cranberries. It makes a festive non-alcoholic drink.

Should I choose pure hibiscus or a blend?

Pure Hibiscus is the most tart and makes the deepest red iced tea. Blends with rosehips, rose or fruit are softer and sweeter, so they need little or no sugar.
